BUDR Micro-Experience Program will provide undergraduate mentees who lack research experience with a paid opportunity to participate in practical laboratory-based work. The Micro-Experience aims to develop technical skills, foster critical thinking, encourage networking opportunities, and catalyze future employment.
Eligibility and Project Selection
BUDR mentees who do not have prior research experience are prioritized for the microexperience program. BUDR will solicit research projects from researchers across various disciplines such as Botany, Zoology, Earth and Ocean Sciences, and more. Students will be matched to a project and compensated for 40 hours of research work.
You should first join our Mentorship Program to be eligible. Please visit this page for more details.

FAQs
Q: How are the 40 hours distributed?
A: These hours can be spread out over a certain period, depending on the start and end dates of the projects. Arrangements can be made with host labs about how the 40 hours will be distributed in some cases. If you are accepted for one of the projects, you can contact your supervisor and discuss in more detail when to come into the lab.
Q: I’m an international student. Can I apply for this?
A: Yes! You do not need a work permit in order to work on campus while attending UBC, as your study permit gives you permission to work unlimited hours on-campus as long you are enrolled in full-time studies.
Q: Are there any requirements for the position?
A: No! All of these positions are for students who are new to research. You do not need previous skills or experience. All training will be provided on the job so that you can successfully complete the work required.
